چکیده

The genus Bactrophora Westwood, 1842 comprises only two species known from Central America and northern South America, with a notable scarcity of collected specimens. Herein, we provide the first records presence this in Brazil. These new records, based on entomological collection data photographic extend distribution dominans to include Brazilian Amazonian region. Both emphasize importance natural history collections significance iNaturalist web-based application as an instrumental tool discovery.

Reproductive Responses to Photoperiod by a South Florida Population of the Grasshopper Romalea microptera (Orthoptera: Romaleidae)

Reproductive tactics of some insects are affected by photoperiod because daylength is a reliable cue indicating seasonal change in environmental suitability. We tested the hypothesis that late-season (short-day) photoperiod affects the length of the oviposition cycle of the eastern lubber grasshopper, which is from a subtropical area with a winter dry season. We predicted that oviposition wouldo...

Divergent egg physiologies in two closely related grasshopper species: Taeniopoda eques versus Romalea microptera (Orthoptera: Romaleidae).

We compared egg survivorship and egg development time at different soil moistures for two closely related grasshopper species from divergent habitats: marsh-inhabiting Romalea microptera (Beauvois) versus desert-inhabiting Taeniopoda eques (Burmeister). These two species can interbreed and produce viable offspring. In nature, both species have a similar 8-9 mo subterranean egg stage, but their ...

Exposure to Exogenous Enkephalins Disrupts Reproductive Development in the Eastern Lubber Grasshopper, Romalea microptera (Insecta: Orthoptera)

Enkephalins play a major role in reproductive physiology in crustaceans; however their role in reproductive development in insects is largely unknown. We investigated the effect of exposure to exogenous leucine-enkephalin (Leu-Enk), methionine-enkephalin (Met-Enk), and the opioid antagonist naloxone on gonad development in the Eastern lubber grasshopper, Romalea microptera. Injection of either ...

First report of a parthenogenetic Grylloidea and new genus of Neoaclini (Insecta: Orthoptera: Grylloidea: Phalangopsidae: Phalangopsinae).

This study describes a new genus and species of Neoaclini cricket based on specimens collected in the Brazilian Atlantic forest. In addition to the morphological description, we also report karyotype. Ubiquepuella telytokous n. sp. represents the first recorded occurrence of parthenogenesis in Grylloidea. Although the exclusively parthenogenetic reproduction is rare in Orthoptera, we acknowledg...
